Malet

Music Director

Thierry Malet is a multi-award-winning French Film Composer, known for combining a unique blend of Classical, Ambient and Electronic music with elements of original sound design.

Thierry Malet is currently celebrating 15 years’ collaboration with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. He has devoted himself mainly to composing music for more than 100 documentaries and more than 200 films for TV and cinema.

Malet’s soundtrack is a testament to his commitment and passion for the craft and is always looking to push the boundaries of creation that you might not expect. He loves to build powerful themes that weave in and out of the story line in which he says gives the film a musical consciousness.

Earlier years

Thierry Malet started to study the piano at the age of 7 at the Paris conservatoire, where he took courses in harmony and composition. But it was to be a further ten years before he discovered his true passion at Claude Bolling’s school, writing film scores. In order to gain a fuller understanding of musical acoustics, he attended the school of arts and crafts and developed the very first MIDI digital guitar. He was to complete his education five years later with a doctorate in acoustics at Sheffield University in England. Confident in this experience, he returned to France in 1994 and was soon to compose a number of original scores for television broadcasts and documentaries before going on to compose scores for French and American cinema. In 1995, he founded his own executive musical production company in order to gain a perfect understanding of the recording business.

In 2005, thanks to the musical film Imago, which won the Golden Rail at the Cannes Film Festival – Semaine de la Critique, he won several awards for this original soundtrack including the SACEM award for best original film score.
