Opening Night Gala

Please join us in the Foyer of Mercury Cinema at 6pm on the 16th of January for drinks and nibbles to kick off the Wild Earth Oceania Film Festival. The celebrations will continue through our WEOFF Film Award Ceremony followed by the screening of the Best Feature Film “The Last Koalas” commencing at 7.30pm.

First Nations in Focus

This session is all about the wisdom, culture, and conservation work being done by First Nations people in Oceania! Dive in to hear about wallaby reintroduction, forests filled with the beautiful sound of the glossy black cockatoo, the importance of healing Country through a traditional First Nations totemic system, and find out why people are deeply intertwined and connected to the health of the Pacific Ocean.

Racing for the Ovakango

The Closing Night Gala Event of the Wild Earth Oceania Film Festival will celebrate the completion of our Inaugural edition and will be kick started by a First Nations led smoke ceremony outside the cinema with a blessing by the elders of what is to come in the years and decades ahead for this Indigenous and youth led WILDLIFE Film Festival.

Living With Lions

Rugari the cattle herder, his wife Agnes, and their children Nyange and Machaba live in Robanda, one of thirty-eight small villages on the edge of Serengeti National Park. On the other side of the park border, two lionesses guide their cubs through a life of discovery and hardship on the Serengeti. No fences separate the two families.
