First Nations in Focus

Date: 17th of January, 2024

This session is all about the wisdom, culture, and conservation work being done by First Nations people in Oceania! Dive in to hear about wallaby reintroduction, forests filled with the beautiful sound of the glossy black cockatoo, the importance of healing Country through a traditional First Nations totemic system, and find out why people are deeply intertwined and connected to the health of the Pacific Ocean.

From giving kiwis a boost in Aotearoa New Zealand to creating wildlife passages along Highway 93 in the US, you will leave this session feeling inspired to take action for nature!

This session showcases how local communities are taking action to defend nature in Africa.  From Africa’s first armed all-women anti-poaching unit to the transformational story of Kenya’s once most wanted poacher, those films highlight the power that empowered people can have when it comes to protecting our precious wildlife.
